L to R:
Monique (Yasmina's Mother), Hassan (Yasmina's Father), Simon, Yasmina, Abdelkader
(the Adoul)
Adoul,
or Islamic Minister. He was our point of contact for the administrative
process, which involved me getting:
- medical certificates;
- birth certificates,
Simon's translated into French;
- a signed paper from
the British Embassy to prove I was single and able to marry (Simon);
- a certificate of conversion
to Islam (Simon);
- an extract of our criminal
records from the Ministry of Justice (empty, of course ;-));
- several passport photos;
- a signed letter from
Hassan to say that Yasmina could be married (yes, the father has to give permission
no matter what age the bride is);
- the approval of the
Islamic Judge, who interviewed us in Arabic before signing the paper;
- wedding rings...;
