Rabat - Youssoufia Simon and Yasmina's Wedding |
Next >>> |

L to R:
Monique (Yasmina's Mother), Hassan (Yasmina's Father)
The wedding took place at Monique and Hassan's flat. In Islam (at least in Morocco) the actual administrative part of the wedding does not take place in a Mosque or other place of worship. It is usually at the bride's parents' house. Our choice to not invite a lot of people is in keeping with the tradition in Morocco. Since a couple cannot legally cohabit without being married, the actual legal marriage is often a quiet affair, to allow the bride and groom to set up home. Not infrequently, the bride and groom will live their first years together in one of the parents' homes.
Where we split from tradition was by not arranging a party to celebrate the wedding at a later stage. A traditional Moroccan wedding involves a party of family and friends. The bride typically wears a minimum of 3 different dresses, and is carried in a sedan chair to the whoops and shouts of the female contingent of the crowd.
We will, eventually, arrange a party... for the people who matter, and you know who you are.
